Why have we traditionally turned to non-profit organisations, NGOs and governments to solve the biggest social problems? Michael Porter wonders this out loud during this just released TED Talk.
Porter admits that he is biased as a business school professor, but – just like the social entrepreneur’s movement – he sees great opportunities for entrepreneurs who can effectively tackle societal challenges with their business skills and problem-solving capacity. Such as climate change, poverty reduction and access to water.
Porter nicely summarizes why RIGHT entrepreneurs should be concerned with tackling social and ecological challenges.
“Because when business solves a problem, it makes a profit – which lets that solution grow”.
